Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
